Label

The label dispel allows you to insert a static text (a text that cannot be modified) into a presentation. The text serves as a description explaining the presentation function to the user. If you specify the label text by means of a function, its value may vary in time.
The label may have a subordinate dispel (often a line editor). Then, it serves as a title to that dispel. The subordinate dispel is denoted as a child. One of the advantages of this arrangement is that the editor text and the label text are aligned to the same base line. Moreover, if a keyboard shortcut is assigned to the label, pressing the shortcut activates the subordinate dispel.
The label further allows you to draw a frame or line around the child. If no text is specified, the label can be used simply to insert a line into a presentation.
Labels with multiple lines can be defined by the rich text label dispel.

Display

Item
Description
Text
Label text. If a Display – hot-key display style is assigned to a letter in the label text, the letter will work as a keyboard shortcut when pressed together with the Alt key – it will activate the label child.
To prevent the child from being too close to the label, make a space at the end of the text or specify the Indent value in the Child section (see below).
If the text is specified by means of a function, it can be used to display different values in different situations.
Example: if you specify the text as the following Enki language function: [String]system.time_sec, the label will show time.
Text style
Style of the label text. You can choose between basic and heading 1 to 5. Heading 1 is drawn with the biggest font, heading 5 with the smallest font.
The basic style corresponds to the Display – labels display style. The headings correspond to the Display – heading X styles.
Text indent
Space on the left in front of the text. If the child is under the text, you can also specify a negative value. The text will then hang in front of the indented child. The value is specified in pixels.
Icon
Icon displayed in front of the label. The icon is entered using the icon editor.
Text next to child
Text displayed next to the child. Even if the child is under the label text, the text next to child is still displayed on the right.
This field can be used primarily to display the unit if the child edits a measurement. Or you can use it to provide a short note to the child.
Line
Displayed line or frame of the label:
none
horizontal line
vertical line
frame
Line style
Available only when horizontal line or vertical line is selected:
none
no line
simple
a simple black line one pixel wide (the actual color may differ depending on Windows settings).
groove
three-dimensional line resembling a groove.
The line is displayed along the entire width (or height) of the child. If the label is in a group, you can make it aligned in block. The line will be then displayed across the entire width of the group.
Frame style
Available only when Line is set to frame:
none
no line
simple
a simple black line one pixel wide (the actual color may differ depending on Windows settings).
groove
three-dimensional line resembling a groove.
raised
the frame is composed of a light and dark lines so that it appears as if its content was raised above its surroundings.
sunken
the frame is composed of a light and dark lines so that it appears as if its content was sunken into its surroundings.
deep
like sunken, but the frame is thicker so that the label seems to be deeper. The frame is the same as the frame surrounding editors. This is useful when you need to make a single frame around multiple dispels to make it look like a single editor – switch off the frame of the individual editors and add a frame this way. It may be also appropriate to set a white background in this situation.
Frame distance
Available only when Line is set to frame. The spaces left between the frame and its contents. Two values can be specified: vertical for the spaces above and under the frame and horizontal for the spaces on the left and on the right.
Text position
For horizontal line:
above line
the text is above the line. If the child is to the right of the text, the line is also under the child. If the child is under the text, the line is between the text and the child.
over line
the line is broken and the text is displayed over it. It is recommended to set positive text indent displaying the line start in front of the text and to put the child below the text.
below line
the text is below the line. The line is displayed above the text and the child.
For vertical line:
left to line
the child should be to the right of the text. The line then has the height of the child and is displayed between the text and the child. Child indent should be positive.
above line
the line starts below the text.
right to line
the line is displayed to the left of the text and the child.
For frame:
inside frame
the text including the child is surrounded by a frame
over frame
the child is surrounded by a frame and the text is written over the frame. Positive text indent should be specified.
outside frame
the child is surrounded by a frame and the text is outside the frame.
Background
The label background color. The options are: gray, white, or auto. The actual colors may differ depending on Windows settings. Gray refers to the window background color whereas white refers to the background of fields (such as table cells etc.). If the auto option is in place, the background will be white if the label is located in a dispel with white background.

Child

Item
Description
Definition
The child definition. If no child is defined, only the label text and the line or frame, if applicable, are displayed.
Alignment
Horizontal alignment of the child if the label is wider than the child. The options are: left, center, right, in block, and auto. The in block option extends the child to the maximum possible width. If the auto option is in place, the alignment is determined from the table column in which the dispel is located. If it is not located in a table, it is left-aligned.
Indent
If the child is right to text, this field determines its distance from the text; if the child is below text, this field determines the distance from the left border of the label. The value is specified in pixels.
Position
The child’s position with respect to the label text. The child can be placed right to text (i.e. on the same line) or below text (i.e. on a new line).
Outside frame
If Line is set to frame and this option is checked, the child is displayed outside the frame.
White background
If checked, the inside of the label frame is white (the actual color depends on Windows settings). If the label has no frame, the background of the entire label is white. The child and its subordinate dispels are displayed in field (i.e. the automatic background is set to white, and also the automatically determined dispel borders are different).
