Bitmap Formats

Every bitmap is stored in one of the following format. The formats are identified by a string. As some formats have further parameters, a format parameters data type is associated with each format.
Format String
Description
"WBMP"
Windows Bitmap – a bitmap format without any data compression.
Standard file extensions: .bmp or .dib.
Format parameter type: none.
"JPEG"
The JPEG format – a bitmap format with a lossy data compression.
Standard file extensions: .jpeg, .jpg.
Format parameter type: JPEG_params.
"PNG"
The PNG format – a bitmap format with a lossless data compression.
Standard file extension: .png.
Format parameter type: PNG_params.
"GIF"
The GIF format.
Standard file extension: .gif.
Format parameter type: GIF_params.

The image is encoded in multiple passes with progressive improvement of quality.

If set to TRUE, the image is first passed through, in order to compute the optimal Huffman encoding table.
